2012 Supreme Shibuya Box Logo Tee

Sale price£2,177.00

In 2012 Supreme opened its 6th Japan and 9th worldwide store in Shibuya, Tokyo. This special occasion was commemorated in the form of a traditional store opening box logo tee. For this signature piece Supreme worked with Artist Nate Lowman, often times dubbed as “A Child of Warhol”. His most famous work is the 2005 “Pink Escalde” bullet hole, a re-occuring theme in his Art. Lowman explained his fascination of found imagery - more precisely bumber stickers, drawing a connection within the complete isolation of privatized travel. The famous bullet hole graphic was originally found on a bumber sticker in Texas, gifted to him by a friend. Lowmans work Incorporates elements of Pop, appropriation, and assemblage, it is deeply political in its intentions, never allowing an image to become neutralized by its context. In 2007 Supreme worked on a collaboration which eventually got cancelled and never came out. Five years later in 2012, Lowman was appointed to design the box logo tee for the Shibuya store opening. He incorporated his signature bullet hole design and subtle roman characters IX -MMXll stating the opening date. His famous bullet hole is placed outside the store next to the Supreme logo. The Nate Lowman box logo is one of the most iconic pieces ever made by Supreme – it has since then been featured on big name auctions, in Paris a Nate Lowman Shibuya Box Logo was sold for over $11,000.
