In 1999 Supreme payed homage to one of the greatest and most popular fictional TV crime dramas of all time : “The Sopranos”.
Subtle, simple, yet Genius Supreme altered the ‘r’ in their seven-letter logo to a gun which is a direct reference to the the signature R in ‘The Sopranos’ logo.
Much like Supreme, the Sopranos started out with a small cult following and gradually built out a worldwide popularity.
This is not the first nor the last time the New York skate brand draws a connection with movie culture. This may very well be the most iconic one ever due to its 22 year old age and highly recognisable use of both their logo and the gun-shaped ‘R’.
A piece like this in a ballot of its own, during the release of this coveted t-shirt Supreme was still a relatively small brand with nearly 100 % of its consumers being very much attached to the brand in relatively small community. Therefore reluctant to sell. Taking into consideration the age and endurance a cotton layer piece of fabric had to endure for over 22 years, this Red Sopranos box logo can be considered the only one of its kind in this specific colour, condition and age.
Back in May 2017, an article on highsnobiety stated a DSWT Red on White Sopranos being for sale at $5,400 USD. The seller later announced the item as Sold.
