EVISU was founded in 1991 in Osaka, Japan by Hidehiko Yamane, a designer dedicated to recreating the quality and spirit of mid-century American denim. From the beginning, EVISU set itself apart with a balance of artisanal craftsmanship and bold graphics, producing only a handful of jeans each day on vintage shuttle looms. Every pair carried details inspired by golden-era workwear, from selvedge denim and copper rivets to the hand-painted finishes that made them unique. The most defining feature of EVISU jeans is the seagull (kamome) motif painted across the back pockets. Originally applied by Yamane himself with a brush, the seagull became the brand’s instantly recognizable signature, symbolizing individuality and craft.
